The redevelopment of Yarm Preparatory School’s Block C reflects the School's ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional facilities for its community. Helm was appointed as Project and Cost Managers to oversee this scheme, continuing our relationship with the school.

The works comprised the demolition of the existing building and the design and construction of a purpose-built IT and resource centre, collaborative learning area, performance space/dining hall, 3no classrooms and a new reception area. The works were implemented in a live school environment with existing buildings in close proximity. The site sat on a steep gradient, requiring the design and installation on a new contiguous piled wall to support the existing buildings and create space for the new building.

Working closely with the school’s estates and educational and the design teams and local residents strategic decisions were made and implemented early in the project to ensure its success, including programming / interfacing the most disruptive works around School holidays and a move from gas to electric catering facilities as part of the School’s wider sustainability goals.

The School has recently been named Independent Prep School of Year 2024 at the TES School Awards.
