Appointed as Cost Manager and Employer’s Agent for this state-of-the-art, purpose-built centre which represents a significant advancement in cancer care for the south east region. It will serve private patients and NHS patients through a partnership with the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, ensuring high-quality cancer treatment for the wider community. As a result of this development, Royal Surrey County Hospital will become only the third NHS trust in the country to offer access to an MRI Linear Accelerator, a cutting-edge technology that combines an MRI scanner with a Linear Accelerator to precisely locate tumours and deliver laser-guided, pinpoint treatment. The building's construction requires sub-millimetre precision, demanding close coordination between the Construction Project Manager and Radiation Protection Advisors.
Issues with 3rd party equipment manufacturers, complexity and proximity of MEP services to MRI equipment and a leak that affected the copper faraday cage to the linear accelerator bunker added to the project’s complexity; all these issues were overcome through close collaboration and teamwork with the client, contractor and specialist consultants. Our experience in these fields saw the Employer’s Agent role morph into a Project Management/Client advisor role; assisting to bring the project to a successful conclusion.
The development also includes the construction of a new multi-storey car park with associated servicing, access, and landscaping. This six-storey car park provides 600 spaces for staff, with 30 electric vehicle charging points and infrastructure for 30 more in the future. It also features a security office with comprehensive CCTV coverage. This will increase parking availability for visitors and patients, addressing a long-standing challenge at the main hospital.
